Frequently Asked Questions : Technical
I get mainly garbled music, or no music at all – what gives?
This is normal behavior when your system, network connection or other mitigating factor affects the performance of our software. In general, you must abide by the minimum hardware requirements stated in our user manual. Also, please note that Wimpus does not work with anything less than a 384kbps DSL connection – this means modem users are currently out of luck with respect to using Wimpus.
If you are using a slow internet connection, please decrease the number of radio streams you are listening to. This can be done by going to the File menu, selecting Preferences, and lowering the number next to Number of streams to download.
If you continue to have trouble with the product, but match all our minimum requirements, please fill out our support request form.
Why do some songs get cut off and appended to the next song in the stream?
Wimpus makes a best guess as to when and where songs end and begin. Based on the information given to our program by the stream providers, we cannot guarantee to break up music perfectly. Also, the point of the software is not produce perfect songs – but instead to give you the ability to listen to your favorite radio stations at a later time. If you continue to have trouble with a particular genre, station or song, please fill out our support request form.
I want to add a stream to the list of streams that Wimpus records, how can I do this?
Currently the only way to do this is via the server – please send a stream suggestion using our support form. Make sure you indicate that the request is for a new stream/genre. We will add the stream to our database once we can authenticate it and make sure it is correct. In future versions, we will allow users to add streams themselves as well as tell schedule time blocks to record.
